Inspired by the "uncanny valley effect," coined by Masahiro Mori in 1970, this series uses toy farm figurines to explore how urban viewers relate to cattle, farms, and food. The figures are familiar not because we have seen them in fields, but because we played with them as children. That familiarity triggers something real. A memory layered beneath every image of a farm we have ever seen.

Urban Cattle asks the viewer to question what is real. Is this a storybook version of farm animals, fellow creatures in our environment, or where our food comes from? The answer depends on who is looking.

The works are made with collage, acrylic paint, plaster, and polyurethane. The series began with cows and continues to expand into other farm animals, toy farm-hands, and vintage die-cast tractors.
