Fortune & Grace Series

Fortune

On its surface, this piece is obviously symbolic of "fate, luck and chance", and lots of it ...

It’s big and contains a large amount of goldfish.

But below the surface, the goldfish remain motionless and behind glass.

Is it really true fortune or simply what the “Ego” considers to be fortune?

Fortune: mixed media 72" x 48"

Grace

This piece represents Spiritual Alchemy. Turning our personal lead into gold. Realizing our natural state of Grace.

You are looking at the back of the frame. The unfinished exterior.

The front of the frame is against the wall and hidden. It is slightly detailed and painted gold.

The frame, combined with the goldfish is an analogy of our spiritual evolution. The transmutation into Grace.

The goldfish's body is covered in 24-carat gold leaf (look closely).

Destiny

This piece is symbolic of both the physical and non-physical world. Form and shadow.

Inspired by sea mammals. The shadows cast by the driftwood & tags create beautiful & sometimes ominous shapes.

The movement of the mobile also gives the piece a sense of aliveness.

In Norse Mythology, the first humans were formed out of two pieces of driftwood. We are born into destiny.

Everything returns to the source in the end. The hanging tags symbolize this return.

Look closely at the tags, but be careful don’t get caught on the fish hooks.

The driftwood is from a beach in St. Flavie Quebec, along the St. Lawrence River in the Gaspe Region.

The tags were aged to appear weathered and leathery.

Chance & Persuasion

This piece is symbolic of living our life in a fishbowl.

Family and cultural conditioning are two main factors that influence how we develop as individuals.

With the pressure of today’s social interactions through mass communications, it feels like we are living

life in a fishbowl, with all of our ups and downs for the world to see.
